Free small business hazardous waste disposal – what wastes can I bring?

To participate:

This service is limited to Small Quantity Generator (SQG) businesses in King County producing small amounts of hazardous waste but not enough for regular hazardous waste disposal services.

Businesses must fill out a Business Disposal Form prior to drop off, for your records and ours. Fill out the online form OR download the PDF. We may have to refuse certain wastes.

Some common wastes are hazardous and do not go in the garbage or down drains:

Take these products to a Hazardous Waste Drop-Off Site Total load limit: 25 gallons or 220 pounds per visit (max 4 visits per year).
  • Antifreeze
  • Automotive Products
  • Batteries - Various
      Limit: 5 car, 40 pounds max.
      Limit other batteries: 50 pounds per visit.
      Separate batteries by type & tape over contacts.
  • Cleaners
  • Corrosives
      Limit: 1 gal. hydrofluoric acid mixtures
  • Lawn and Garden Products - No Professional Grade
  • Fire extinguishers (7.5 gallons or less)
  • Flammable liquids 
  • Fluorescent lights
      Limit: Up to 10 tubes or bulbs
  • Fuels (gasoline, diesel, transmission fluid)
  • Glues & Adhesives
  • Marine flares
      Limit: 10 (not accepted at Wastemobile)
  • Mercury including mercury thermometers 
    and mercury thermostats 
  • Motor oil
  • Oil-Based Paints & Stains (No Latex) 
  • Oxidizers
  • Pool & Spa Supplies
  • Propane tanks (7.5 gallons or less)
  • Road flares
  • Solvents & Thinners

These wastes are NOT accepted. Call the Business Waste Line 206-263-8899 for disposal options.


*There is no fee for hazardous waste disposal. It is paid for in your utility bills.

** Laboratories, medical facilities, pest control operators and other businesses that work with highly toxic or reactive chemicals (called “acutely hazardous wastes”) may produce wastes with a monthly SQG limit of 2.2 pounds.
