Funding & Fees

Planned AllocationOur Program fulfills local government responsibilities under state law (RCW 70.105.220) for managing hazardous waste. The Program is funded by local hazardous waste fees on solid waste (garbage) and sewer accounts. Fees charged at transfer stations also fund this account.

The King County Board of Health (11.04.060) authorizes these fees. They are deposited in a restricted hazardous waste account. The Program's Management Coordination Committee approves annual work plans and budgets.

New business/multi-family rate structure in 2015 1

On July 17, 2014, the Board of Health approved changing our rate structure for commercial (business and multi-family) solid waste ratepayers. Instead of paying a flat fee, these commercial ratepayers will be charged according to how much solid waste they produce. The new rates became effective April 1, 2015.
